The Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court confirmed the opening of a preliminary examination into crimes allegedly committed by FDLR forces in North Kivu between 2022 and the present. The examination covers four categories of alleged crimes: murder and extermination as crimes against humanity, rape and sexual slavery, forcible transfer of population, and pillage.

The Prosecutor's office noted the particular quality of documentation produced by Kivu-based human rights monitors over the past three years, describing it as among the most rigorous it had reviewed for any preliminary examination.
